Veterans Day falls on Wednesday, November 11. For many businesses, it shows up on the marketing calendar as a promotion: a discount, a flag in the corner of an ad, a "thank you for your service" at the end of a spot.
Those gestures aren't wrong. But on their own, they rarely leave a lasting impression. The brands veterans remember are the ones that show up in ways that feel specific, consistent and real.
01 | Veterans Are Your Neighbors and Your Customers
More than 57,000 veterans live in Allegheny County alone, according to the Census Bureau. They're customers, employees, business owners and community leaders across Western Pennsylvania.
Speaking to them isn't a once-a-year gesture. It's recognizing a meaningful part of the audience you're already trying to reach.
02 | Show What You Do, Not Just What You Say
A thank-you message lands differently when it's backed by action. Consider what your business actually does:
• Hiring and supporting veterans on your team
• Partnering with a local veterans organization year-round
• Offering a veteran benefit that doesn't expire on Nov. 12
• Sponsoring a community event or service project
If you have a real story, tell it. If you don't yet, Veterans Day is a good reason to start one.
03 | Let Veterans Tell Their Own Stories
The most powerful Veterans Day creative often features real people: an employee who served, a customer, a local veteran-owned business you work with.
Veterans also run a significant share of American businesses. Census data shows veterans own about 5.4% of U.S. employer firms, more than 300,000 businesses generating $922 billion in revenue. Highlighting partners and suppliers from that community is a genuine way to support it.
04 | Tone Matters More Than Volume
Veterans Day is a day of respect, not a shopping event. Creative that feels quiet, sincere and local will stand out more than one more loud promotion.
Placement matters too. A respectful message running alongside trusted local news and community coverage feels right at home. The same message squeezed between hard-sell ads can feel like an afterthought.
Respect Builds Lasting Trust
Veterans Day gives brands a chance to show what they value. When your message is sincere and backed by real action, it builds trust that lasts well beyond November 11.
